Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been one of the standout games of 2024. Despite speculation about sales falling below expectations, Yoshinori Kitase, the game’s producer, clarified that Square Enix is pleased with the results, though no specific numbers have been disclosed. Kitase also emphasized that the company can no longer afford to limit its releases to a single platform, referencing the exclusivity of Final Fantasy VII Remake (initially on PS4) and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (currently on PS5 but coming to PC in January).

“While we’re satisfied with the sales figures, we can’t continue with single-platform exclusivity. We need to bring the game to as many players as possible,” Kitase stated in an interview with IGN Brazil.

Although he did not explicitly mention the third and final installment of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, his comments hint at the possibility of breaking away from PlayStation exclusivity. This could pave the way for a simultaneous release on PlayStation and PC, although an Xbox release seems less likely.
