A passionate Grand Theft Auto fan is taking matters into their own hands by recreating the highly anticipated GTA 6 map within GTA 5. YouTuber Dark Space has been documenting their ambitious project on their channel and social media, giving fans a glimpse into what Vice Beach and the Venetian Islands might look like based on details from Rockstar’s only GTA 6 trailer so far.
Dark Space plans to release the mod within the next two weeks but acknowledges the risks. Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company, has a history of shutting down fan-made projects. Recent examples include the takedown of the “GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition,” which recreated Vice City’s world and missions in GTA 4. Despite this, Dark Space believes their project is different, stating, “This is just me making my own fan-made map myself. All within GTA 5 itself.”
The lack of official GTA 6 updates has fueled fan enthusiasm for creative projects like this. While Rockstar aims to protect its business interests, as highlighted by former technical director Obbe Vermeij, Dark Space is optimistic their mod will survive. They note that their work doesn’t directly compete with Rockstar’s existing or potential remasters, as it relies solely on GTA 5 assets.
With GTA 6 expected to release in fall 2025, speculation about the game is at an all-time high. Meanwhile, projects like Dark Space’s map keep the excitement alive for fans eager to explore Rockstar’s reimagined Vice City.
