In an unexpected twist, Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 was made accessible to PS5 players ahead of its intended release. According to a statement from Larian Studios, this accidental rollout occurred while the patch was still undergoing preparation.
Larian addressed the situation via social media, explaining, “No, the Patch 8 stress test hasn’t yet begun. Yes, PS5 players do currently have access to Patch 8. While we work with our partners to understand what’s going on, please note that any new saves made while on Patch 8 will not be compatible with Patch 7.”
This latest update, first announced in December, is a highly anticipated milestone for the game. Patch 8 promises to introduce cross-platform progression and play, a photo mode, 12 new subclasses, enhanced abilities, animations, visual effects, new cantrips, summons, and even additional voicelines. It is set to be the final major update for Baldur’s Gate 3, nearly a year and a half after its initial launch.
However, players should proceed with caution. Since the patch was not officially released, it may contain bugs or glitches that Larian has not yet resolved. Additionally, saves created using Patch 8 will not be compatible with the previous Patch 7.
While this early release was unintended, it suggests that the official launch of Patch 8 is imminent. For now, PS5 players are advised to avoid downloading the update to prevent potential issues. As Larian continues to fine-tune the patch, the game’s community eagerly awaits this massive content drop that promises to enhance an already stellar RPG experience.
