Polish game studio People Can Fly has been announced as the co-developer of the highly anticipated Gears of War: E-Day, working alongside The Coalition. This marks a return for People Can Fly, who previously developed Gears of War: Judgment and co-developed the first three titles in the series.
In a press release, the studio expressed excitement about revisiting the beloved franchise. “Returning to collaborate on the next chapter of this legendary saga is both a privilege and an exciting opportunity to build upon the intense, visceral action and rich storytelling that fans have come to love,” the statement reads.
Announced during last year’s Xbox Showcase, Gears of War: E-Day will serve as a prequel to the original trilogy, focusing on the origins of the Locust invasion on Emergence Day. Players will see younger versions of iconic characters like Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago, with their original voice actors reprising their roles.
The game’s narrative aims to lean heavily into horror elements, taking inspiration from the terrifying moments of the original trilogy. Creative Director Matt Searcy explained, “What if the ground opened up and monsters came out? It’s set on a fictional planet, but we want to tell stories that feel deeply human and rooted in fear.”
Founded in 2002, People Can Fly is known for its work on Painkiller, Bulletstorm, and most recently, Outriders (2021). Their partnership with The Coalition signals a bold new direction for Gears of War, blending nostalgia with fresh, gripping storytelling.
Fans eagerly await this return to form for the franchise, with hopes that E-Day will reignite the series’ blockbuster appeal.
