Tim Cain, creator of Fallout, recently reflected on the prevalence of violence in video games. In a video, he noted that companies design games based on player preferences. According to Cain, action RPGs outsell classic RPGs due to their more direct and accessible approach.

Cain stated that games featuring violence better capture audience attention, though titles like The Witness or Life is Strange achieve reasonable sales. However, he noted that Steam’s top 100 games are largely violence-centered.

The creator stressed that Fallout provides alternatives to violence, sharing anecdotes of players “breaking” the game by eliminating all NPCs. This inspired the team to develop more robust experiences.
